stratashift

Stratashift is a networked, hierarchical/political computer music system. Players send messages between one another in a tightly controlled rule based system, triggering sounds, and restructuring the hierarchy. An email I wrote prior to rehearsal for a performance at the YUD space in San Francisco:

This system will take a little time to get to know, perhaps 5-10
minutes of being open to it and figuring out how we want it to sound.
To reiterate, the "system" is basically a hierarchy of communication
between players. Each time a Stratashift occurs, every player's
position in the hierarchy is changed. If you're the top, 1, then you
can send bangs to players 2 and 3. If you're 2, you can send to
players 4 and 5, and if you're 3 you can send to players 6 and 7.
Players 4, 5, 6, 7, the lowliest, get to / can only blast (or not)
player 1 with bangs. Anyone can initiate a Stratashift or global
Noise Floor change at any time. The idea is to transcend the system
and work together sonically.

Gretchen will be orating (at this point processed Buddhist texts...).
